History is, as the saying goes, written by winners. To be more specific, it is written by those and commemorates those with power, wealth and influence.
The everyday stories, the ones that tell us what it was like to live in a particular place, at a particular time, in a non-extraordinary way go unremarked and unrecorded. These stories are so often lost and so in their own way become more precious for being so unremarkable.

In this city, the stories of the rich, the wealthy, the powerful and the influential are commemorated: statues, plaques, the buildings themselves. In turn, those statues, buildings and the streets impact and construct the lives of ordinary people, those who live, love, work, study and shop in these places. They shape and are shaped by that same city.

"It was on this spot..." is marking my own personal history on the city. Revisiting the places where things happened to me. Things that would never make the history books, but which had an impact in my life.

Each spot will be marked with a tag commemorating what happened and the year that is took place. A photograph will be taken of the tag and then uploaded to the blog as well as being marked on the map. The tag will be left in place to leave a physical reminder for as long as possible. This project will last for as long as I can sustain it. In theory, it could be my whole life.

The Map

Any mapping project needs a map. Each time a tag is placed, it will be tagged on the map. With each new tag a blog post with the memory associated with that location will be created.
